Resilient Machines, Inc. (RMI) is a newly formed, wholly owned subsidiary of Security Innovation Inc. (SII). The company was originally named SCADA Security Innovation but for one reason or another, the name didn’t fly — the new name speaks to a broader audience and seems well received. RMI’s mission is to implement software protection systems for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and all their associated networks, applications and devices. Typical ICS installations have two networks associated with them, one for process control and one for business management (Enterprise). The two networks have different security needs and a core requirement that the two networks are isolated from one another; specifically to protect the ICS process control network from attacks using the business network as a starting point.
RMI will address network security (NetSec) and application security (AppSec) for both networks and provide an ultimately secure environment in the entire ICS facility using the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) whitelisting invention (U.S. Patent Application 13/190520) along with other specialized software and professional services to lock down Process Control Systems (PCS) and devices on the process control network including but not limited to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and other control station and controller software and devices, while other specialized whitelisting technology and professional services developed by RMI will be used on the Enterprise network.
The typical problems found in ICS networks are poorly maintained and vulnerable workstations that are used to manage processes, weak security policies and practices and insecure network topologies. Addressing these issues is the primary focus of RMI which will leverage RMI’s Investigator to clean and prepare workstations for whitelisting, the invention (ESCAPE) for locking down embedded systems, constrained system PCS stations, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and other devices.
